Professional soccer player Kristoffer Olsson on a ventilator due to brain disease

The Scandinavian football world is worried about Swedish national player Kristoffer Olsson, who suddenly became seriously ill. The 28-year-old professional from the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland lost consciousness at home a week ago and was then taken to Aarhus University Hospital, where he continues to lie and is receiving artificial ventilation, his club announced on Tuesday.

Olsson apparently suffers from an acute brain disease. Medical experts are therefore working hard to make a diagnosis and find the right treatment method. The club emphasized that the illness was neither due to self-inflicted injuries nor to external factors.

“Swedish football family is thinking of you”

The midfielder is one of the leading players at the Danish top club. He has played 47 international matches for the Swedish national team so far, and he also started all four of Sweden’s games at the 2021 European Championship.

The Swedish Football Association only found out about Olsson’s sudden illness on Tuesday morning. “We are with you, Koffe,” the association wrote on the online platform X. “The entire Swedish football family is thinking of you and hopes that you will get well again soon.”
