Probably well-intentioned, but what he doesn’t know is that the female golfer in question is a professional: Georgia Ball. She has set up a camera on the driving range so she can review her swing and use it for her social media.
And in doing so, she unintentionally records an example of unadulterated ‘mansplaining’:
What makes it extra painful for the man is that he doesn’t pick up the obvious hints at all from Ball, who remains friendly throughout. Twice he emphasizes that he has ‘been playing golf for twenty years’. He thinks Ball’s second swing, after his advice, is a lot better.
‘Keep it up’
He concludes his unsolicited lecture on an uplifting note: ‘keep up the good work’.
All in all, the video was so entertaining that Ball posted it to her TikTok, where the video has now been viewed millions of times and received thousands of comments. “I’ve been driving a car for 25 years, but I’m not going to give Lewis Hamilton advice, am I?”, says someone.
Ball herself also explains in the comments why she did not put the man on his number. “It was quite awkward. I couldn’t find the words for it.”
