Salerno got inside me in just a few months.” With a long post on Instagram, Pippo Inzaghi said goodbye to Salernitana, thanking the city and the fans for the affection they have always shown him but also reserving a small controversial coda for the club that sacked him, choosing Liverani instead of him.
“Around the streets, fans and ordinary people stop me, with regret and displeasure, for a greeting, a photo, a handshake. The only word I feel like saying from my heart now is: ‘thank you’. For the welcome, esteem and trust”, writes Inzaghi.
The criticism of society and Sabatini
Then, however, he continues by contesting the management’s choice, and of Walter Sabatini in particular, that in greeting him – before the press conference to present Liverani – he had “apologised” with Inzaghi (“I deeply apologize from a human and professional point of view”, he said): “I feel the weakness of an unfinished mission not by my will. I confirm that twice I tried to shake up the environment from within by fearing my resignation, but I have always been persuaded to continue: because ultimately only one sentence applies to me too: UNTIL THE END. I married the project with transparency and this last one is what I would have wanted, especially on the market which, in my opinion, was late and not in line. The consolatory phrases of director Sabatini are of little use today, also because I don’t see the point in apologizing for one’s mistake and cut off the head of another”, continues Inzaghi.
“Loyalty? I’m utopian”
