PGA Tour Matsuyama’s proof by nine at the Genesis

By playing -9 on the fourth round, Hideki Matsuyama offered himself a 9th coronation on the PGA Tour by winning the Genesis Invitational trophy (-17).

He missed a birdie to equal Ted Tryba’s course record (61 in 1999) but the essential thing is obviously not there. Hideki Matsuyama lifted the Genesis Invitational trophy after a dream 4th round (9 birdies, no errors) while his direct competitors were stuck in the money-time: “My game was already well adjusted before starting this tournament but my iron game improved further with each round. I’m delighted to have been able to play without any back pain, it’s the first time in a long time. »

At the exit of the 14th, the Japanese shared the lead with four other players at -14: Will Zalatoris, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Luke List. And then, Matsuyama accelerated even though he had started this Sunday six shots behind Patrick Cantlay: birdie at 15, ace missed by nothing at 16 for a given birdie, birdie at 17 after a delicious approach on the edge of green. A one-man show which does not prevent Matthieu Pavon from remaining at the head of the FedEx Cup before returning to the courses, the Japanese rising to 3rd place after having waited 763 days to return to success on the PGA Tour.
