Leroy Sané remains suspended for three international matches for the German national team. This means that he will be missing national coach Julian Nagelsmann until shortly before the start of the home European Championship. FIFA rejected the appeal against the penalty for Sané’s sending off in the friendly in Austria, as the German Football Association announced. This means that legal recourse within FIFA has been exhausted. The striker from FC Bayern Munich was shown a red card in the 2-0 defeat in Vienna after an assault in the 49th minute.

Sané hit his opponent Phillipp Mwene after a challenge against Austria at the beginning of the second half and was sent off the pitch by referee Slavko Vincic. FIFA imposed a minimum ban of three games for the offense. Sané had apologized.
