Manchester United’s positive record continues. So far, they are one of two Premier League teams who have not lost throughout 2024.
After closing 2023 with a 1-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest, MU recovered and achieved a series of positive results at the start of the new year. Seven matches in the Premier League and FA Cup were completed with six wins and one draw.
Specifically in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s team successfully won four consecutive wins in February, including beating Luton Town 2-1 on Sunday (18/12).
This result made their position in the standings rise from eighth to sixth. The chance to qualify for the Champions League is now wide open, as long as we are able to maintain consistency.
Apart from MU, only city rivals Manchester City are unbeaten so far in 2024. They are even better. Eight matches have been played in all competitions with seven consecutive wins and one draw against Chelsea last weekend.
This is also what made Pep Guardiola’s team return to the top flight of the Premier League after faltering in the first half of the season, apart from being supported by the results of other teams who had lost.
Returning to MU, Ten Hag welcomed this positive trend even though it was not always achieved in a convincing way. But at least the hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season is maintained.
“I think we have returned to competition (for Champions League tickets) and we are building momentum. We need to build pressure. Every match is a final in order to keep getting closer to it,” said Ten Hag to Sky Sports.
MU will next face Fulham at Old Trafford, Saturday (24/2) at 22.00 WIB.
