Unwavering determination and precise shots were some of the keys for the Mexican archery team to achieve, in Berlin 2023, its best participation in a World Championship of the specialty, with four medals obtained: three silver and one bronze.

After six intense days of arduous competition, the national representative closed its competitions with a flourish, thanks to the performance of the Olympic medalist Alejandra Valencia Trujillo, who won the silver medal in individual recurve.

The Sonoran goalkeeper appeared on the throwing field this Sunday to face the quarterfinals, where she categorically defeated the Japanese Sugimoto Tomomi 7-1, thus settling into the round of the four best in the world.

In that instance, the current Central American monarch fought an emotional duel against the American Casey Kaufhold, whom she beat 6-5 in the definition by golden arrow, with a perfect score throw on the nine thrown by the North American.

After these two important victories, Valencia Trujillo entered the grand final to compete for the world title against the Czech Marie Horackova, who had left the South Korean Lim Sihyeon and the Japanese Noda Satsuki on the road, before winning 6-0 Mexican style and win the gold.

With the silver medal obtained on the last day, Mexico concluded its activities in Berlin 2023 with three runners-up: women’s individual recurve, women’s individual compound (Andrea Becerra Arizaga) and women’s team compound (Becerra Arizaga, Ana Hernández León and Dafne Quintero García) , as well as bronze for women’s recurve teams (Valencia Trujillo, Aída Román and Ángela Ruiz Rosales).

In addition to these four podiums, the third place in the world for the recurve specialists granted four places for our country to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: three for teams and one individual in the women’s branch.

The next great challenge for the Aztec representative will be the fourth stage of the World Cup series, to be held in Paris, France, from August 15 to 20, in the venue where the Olympic Games will take place next year.
