VIVA – Jose Mourinho revealed he was offered the chance to coach England during a chat with Rio Ferdinand.

Over the years, Mourinho has strived to become one of the best managers of his generation.

Throughout his illustrious career, the Portuguese coach has coached clubs such as Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Roma.

Mourinho is often linked with international team managers, and the man himself claims he was offered the chance to coach England.

While chatting with former United and Three Lions defender Ferdinand, Mourinho said: “I turned down a big job opportunity. The first one was even very difficult to reject because it was Portugal.”

He continued: “I can be their coach in the national team, as well as you. I keep it there, on the table.”

At this point, Ferdinand put his hand on his face and said: “No way!”

Recently, the 61 year old man was the manager of the Italian Serie A club, Roma. Mourinho led the team to their first trophy in 14 years after taking them this far in the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.

However, after a series of disappointing performances in the 23/24 season which ended with four defeats in seven games, Mourinho was sacked by Roma last month.

Roma’s statement in full read: “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and effort since his arrival at the club.

“We will always have fond memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish Jose and his assistants the best in their future endeavors.”

Since then, the ‘Special One’ has been linked with a move to the Saudi Professional League, as well as a return to Chelsea.
