Ignacio Buse Receives Invitation to Debut in Competitive ATP 250 Tennis Tournament in Santiago

After a brilliant performance in the Davis Cup qualifiers, Ignacio Buse (526 ATP) received an invitation to play in the competitive ATP 250 in Santiago, which will take place from February 24 to March 3. The 19-year-old national tennis player will mark his debut in ATP tournaments, and he hopes to dazzle again like in his historic victory against Nicolás Jarry, top 20 in the world. ‘Nacho’ confirmed his presence in the Chilean capital and was very excited about this new challenge in his career.

This Friday, Buse and Yaroslav Demin (1665 ATP) were eliminated in the first round of the M25 Vila Real de Santo Antonio, after losing 6-7 and 4-6 against Jaime Faria (229 ATP) and Joao Domingues (683 ATP). “Defeats like that hurt, a lot. Even more so after the good time that had just passed. You have to understand that everything is a process and that you have to go through these setbacks to get up and come back even stronger. Head up, this is just beginning,” the Peruvian said on his networks.

In that same post, Ignacio confirmed that he will be present at the ATP 250 in Santiago, and not as a spectator, but as one of the participants. He quickly turned the page on his recent defeat and is ready to make his debut in ATP tournaments. He will start in the tournament qualy, which will start on Saturday, February 24.

It is a special and very important participation for ‘Nacho’. It is worth mentioning that, if he wins a match in qualifying, he will add seven points to his ATP ranking. It’s almost the same as reaching the semi-finals of an ITF M25 tournament or reaching the quarter-finals in a CH 50 (both are worth eight points). It is the perfect opportunity for you to climb positions.

According to the national athlete’s calendar, after the ATP 250 in Santiago, he will continue his path in the Santa Cruz Challenger, which will take place between March 3 and 10. Afterwards, he will play the Santiago Challenger, scheduled to take place from March 10 to 17. He has a busy agenda and seeks to continue gaining experience and raising the level.

How did Ignacio Buse become a tennis player?

In his adolescence, Ignacio Buse was close to deciding on gastronomy (his uncle is the well-known chef Gastón Acurio), but his mother recommended that he lean towards tennis, and he listened to her and also to his heart. “When I was little he told my mother: ‘I want to be a chef,’ and my mother warned me about what being a chef involves. ‘You have to start washing dishes, working in restaurants until four in the morning, you’re not going to like that life. If you love being on a tennis court, you’re not going to enjoy it,’ she told me,” she confessed in an interview.

Then he was presented with an opportunity to study in the United States, but his VISA was rejected. This impediment made her dedicate herself more to tennis and that was how he decided that he was going to be a professional tennis player. “I was going to play college tennis, but it didn’t come out. There was a problem with the residency process that didn’t work out. Luckily it didn’t work out,” she added.

His dream is to transcend, surpass the history of his grandfather Enrique Buse and one day win the Roland Garros. “I feel capable, why not dream of one day winning a Roland Garros,” he said at the end of 2023, in an interview on the Set Paralelo program. So far, he has made it clear that he is learning fast and that, if he continues on that path, he will go very far.
