“I never cheated”: Clarisse Crémer suspected of having broken the rules of the last Vendée Globe

Clarisse Crémer and her companion, Tanguy Le Turquais, are the two skippers suspected of having cheated during the last Vendée Globe (2020-2021), as the sailor explained on her Facebook account. In an anonymous email received by the French Sailing Federation, a participant was accused of having benefited from weather information during the competition. Which is strictly prohibited by the regulations.

In a press release, the president of the Vendée Globe, Alain Leboeuf, announced on Tuesday the opening of an investigation: “The president of the French Sailing Federation (FFV) kept me informed of the anonymous e-mail that he had just received, implicating a skipper who would have benefited from routing information during the last Vendée Globe. » To support his accusations, the author of the email added screenshots of a WhatsApp discussion.

“Tanguy never gives me the slightest information that I don’t already have”

Although these messages have not yet been authenticated, Clarisse Crémer acknowledges their existence in a message published Thursday morning on her Facebook account. “These exchanges took place on my shipboard phone, owned by my former team (Banque Populaire), which I left accessible to everyone as soon as I arrived on land, in accordance with the rules.”

The content of these messages does not necessarily prove the suspected cheating, i.e. the exchange of weather data. It will be up to the Vendée Globe investigators to determine Crémer’s guilt. She defends herself: “I never cheated, I never had any desire to break a rule during this 87-day world tour. During our exchanges, which essentially concern the intimacy of a couple, Tanguy never gives me the slightest information that I do not already have. »

If they were found guilty by the FFV, the two skippers, entered for the next Vendée Globe (from November 10, 2024 to March 7, 2025), could be sanctioned.
