VIVA – The South Korean Football Federation has officially appointed a new coach to replace the fired Juergen Klinsmann. Now, the South Korean coaching chair is occupied by Hwang Sun-hong.

This 55 year old coach has also managed the South Korean U-23 national team since 2021 which will face the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

During three years of polishing South Korea U-23, Hwang Sun-hong succeeded in presenting a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

“Currently, Hwang Sun-hong is a coach affiliated with the KFA and has successfully won a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games,” said Chairman of the KFA Strengthening Committee, Jung Hae-sung, quoted by South Korean media, Chosun.

“He has high-level experience in international championships and a good understanding of Asian football. After considering whether Hwang Sun-hong could lead South Korea in addition to preparing South Korea U-23 for the 2024 Olympics, it was deemed that it would not be burdensome in terms of schedule, ” he said.

Hwang Sun-hong was appointed to replace Jurgen Klinsmann who was fired after failing in the 2023 Asian Cup. However, Hwang will only be an interim coach.

Hwang Sun-hong will lead the South Korean national team in the continuation of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in Asia Zone Group C at the end of next month.

On the other hand, the appointment of Hwang proves that Shin Tae-yong fulfilled his promise to PSSI. The reason is, he is still under contract until June 2024.

Shin Tae-yong will lead the Indonesian U-23 National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. He is targeted to bring the Garuda Muda squad through to the last 8 rounds. If that is achieved, Shin Tae-yong will be rewarded with a contract extension.

Previously, Shin Tae-yong admitted that he had received many training offers from other countries. However, he admitted that he rejected the offer.

Not long after that, it was rumored that Shin Tae-yong would be included in the ranks of South Korea’s new coaches. This cannot be separated from his experience as coach of South Korea at the 2018 World Cup. However, Shin Tae-yong will now still be with the Indonesian National Team, at least until June 2024.
