Raúl Bergua, Gonzalo Isábal, in the U-17 category, and Hugo Gállego in the U-15 category, The Internacional de Benalmádena is participating this weekend with the Spanish badminton team. The three Badminton Huesca La Magia players thus face the opening of the international competition calendar in 2024.
In the U-17 individual competition, On paper, the two young people from Huesca have an affordable start against Adrián Lazo and Miguel Pérez. Both will partner in the men’s doubles and will also play in the mixed doubles tournament. Bergua with Iziar Barcala and Isábal with Sofía García.
“Within the European ranking, they are both in the top eight. It is an important competition because players come from all over Europe and they are part of the Spanish team. The objective is to reach the final rounds, they can go beyond the quarterfinals and they have the level to do so,” says the club’s coach and sports director, Roberto González.
In the same city of Malaga there is the youngest of the Gállego, Hugo, who is going to make his debut in a competition of this level in the Under-15 category. “It is his first international experience to gradually enter the European circuit. He is going to live a nice experience and he already has recent medals in Spanish championships,” González observes. Hugo will play, in addition to singles, in men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
ALEJANDRO GÁLLEGO AND CRISTINA ROIG, IN GRANOLLERS
He Badminton Huesca La Magia will also be in Granollers, where an absolute category Master tournament is held. And there will be the people from Huesca Alejandro Gállego and Cristina Roig.
Gállego is a first-year U-19 and faces a good experience against superior players to try to reach the final draw and achieve that “plus” that means adding points. “It’s going to be a good test for him,” says Roberto González. In his case, Alejandro will only compete in the individual tournament, “all training is focused on that modality and that is why exhaustive monitoring is being done.”
Cristina Roig will compete in the individual table and also in the women’s doubles with Esther Pereira.
