BVB is well served with the goalless draw in Heidenheim. The newcomer has the better chances, but doesn’t take advantage of them. Above all, striker Tim Kleindienst, who was particularly harsh on himself after the game.

It is an action that will probably be reflected in every Bundesliga annual review. After a fatal bad pass from Dortmund’s Salih Özcan, the ball landed at the feet of Tim Kleindienst. The striker turned and stood completely free in the penalty area in front of the empty goal because BVB keeper Meyer had previously played the pass to Özcan. Kleindienst wanted to be too precise. Instead of simply pushing the ball into the empty goal, he circled it just past the left corner of the cross.

It was the biggest chance of the game. Since it also remained unused, the score remained 0-0 between Heidenheim and BVB. It was a draw with which Borussia was still well served. Not least because of Kleindienst’s missed big chance, who was visibly dejected after the game.

“To miss an opportunity like that is very, very hard. It was harder to miss than to hit the goal. Of course you are proud because we got a point, but this action will stay with me for a few days,” said Kleindienst. He wanted to shoot high into the left corner so that the goalkeeper couldn’t get close: “It hurts to see that now. It’s horrible to see now. I would be happy if the coach didn’t show me the action tomorrow.”

BVB coach Terzic pissed off after the game

Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt took the missed shot with humor and said to DAZN after the final whistle: “That was a huge opportunity. I think the expected goals value was not just 1, but 2.” For Schmidt, however, pride in winning the point against BVB prevailed, even if his team was significantly closer to victory than the favorites from Dortmund.

BVB coach Edin Terzic was accordingly annoyed: “We didn’t play a good game, we didn’t deserve more than this one point. We were hardly able to create any scoring chances and couldn’t develop any force. We had an outstanding training session yesterday, but it’s all worthless if you can’t get it on the pitch today.”
