Barça believes in itself again

Grimau’s men win with authority in Belgrade and consolidate second position in the Euroleague

MADRID, 2 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça defeated Red Star (76-85) this Friday on matchday 25 of the Euroleague held at the Stark Arena, a Belgrade pavilion that silenced for many minutes the brilliant performance of Roger Grimau’s men, who once again believe in their project .

The Barça team recorded a second worthy victory in 48 hours, after beating Virtus Bologna, to relaunch the game and sensations at an important moment. The season enters a decisive phase, with the Euroleague very tight and Grimau’s team consolidated in second position, also two weeks away from the Copa del Rey.

The good defense, despite conceding too much in the Serbian offensive rebound, and the performance of Darío Brizuela (20 points) and Jan Vesley (16 points and 8 rebounds), plus the shot of a Nicolás Laprovittola who shines again after injury, added the 17th European victory. Barça passed the away test, after three consecutive defeats away from home, despite the fact that Red Star wanted to fight.

Grimau’s team managed twenty points on the scoreboard in the second half. The Serbian team lowered its arms and revived several times, but Barça had answers for everything. At first it was Jabari Parker who worked perfectly, in addition to that defense that is once again what the Euroleague demands.

Nemanja Nedovic prevented the first quarter from being ideal for the visitors, but Brizuela’s gunpowder allowed the culé escape. Another distant bomb from Laprovittola continued to undermine Serbian faith (32-43), with Vesley also everywhere and the locals surviving with Bolomboy’s rebounds.

Barça did not need to go to the personal line, better in everything, with a bleeding 2 out of 14 in the triple for the locals. Red Star seemed to throw in the towel with a 40-58 lead in another Brizuela streak, but the end of the third quarter gave the excitement that was expected. Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s men left the deficit at 10-13 points, just one last push away in the heat of the Stark Arena.

Jokubaitis put out an important fire, but Dos Santos pressed the light again with eight minutes still left. Barça then scored in Belgrade, reducing the local reaction with Brizuela once again plugged in and Laprovittola rounding out the Barça party as the protagonist of the latest attacks. A culé team that once again believes in itself and in Grimau did not tremble.
