Manchester City won 2-0 against Everton in the opening match of matchday 24 in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Erling Haaland made the difference with two goals at the Etihad Stadium. He opened the score after 71 minutes with a striking kick after a corner kick and added another in the final phase, assisted by Kevin De Bruyne. These were the Norwegian goal machine’s fifteenth and sixteenth goals in this Premier League season, but only the first goals since November 28. Haaland was out injured for about a month and a half.

Jérémy Doku played 88 minutes for the home team. Kevin De Bruyne came on after 57 minutes. Amadou Onana did the same for the visitors in minute 79.

In the rankings, City briefly edged Liverpool with 52 points. The Reds won against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley later in the day and are again the leader (with one more match played). Everton remains eighteenth (19 points) in the relegation zone.

Guardiola about substitute De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne started on the bench at Manchester City, but according to coach Pep Guardiola, that had a logical reason.

“Kevin has been so fresh in his head and legs since his return,” said the Catalan. “That’s why I sometimes don’t want to start him, because his impact is greater than at the beginning of a match.”
