Goldengas Senigallia Victorious Over Pescara Basket 2.0 With 81-74 Win

Fifteenth victory obtained and, certainly, an excellent viaticum for the upcoming second phase. Goldengas Senigallia regains the appointment with the two points by beating Pescara Basket 2.0 81-74 in the last home match of the first phase.

Match which for the purposes of the ranking has little to say in terms of the second phase for both teams, but, for sure, it is an excellent test in view of a second phase which promises to be fiery for both. At Goldengas we see Brigato again after the forced stop due to stitches in his ear but Andrès Landoni is forced to make a pit stop, in the pits as a precaution due to a blow suffered in training. In his place, in the red and white starting five, there is the return of the top scorer Brigato, with Neri, Imsandt and the play-pivot axis Giacomini-Medizza; typical quintet for Pescara Basket who responds with Matera, Stefanov, Del Prete and the tried and tested pair of big men Ranitovic-Capitanelli.

If Senigallia starts better with the 7 points that respond to Ranitovic’s initial basket, it is then Pescara, with its very high pace, that takes possession of the inertia: the same Serbian winger, the triple from Matera and the two baskets from Stefanov, which also arrived thanks to the 2-3 all-court pressure from the guests, they produced the first big breakthrough of the match with a 16-1 run which forced Gabrielli to immediately call the first timeout of the match with 2’24” left in the first quarter. Bracci stops the bleeding at least for a moment but the Abruzzo area causes quite a few problems in Senigallia; Stefanov’s steal and Ranitovic’s post basket score the 25-13 which leads to the first mini-time break.

The second quarter begins along the lines of the first. Pescara first finds Capitanelli’s triple, then Cicchetti’s basket which makes it fly to 30-13, for a Senigallia in this situation a distant relative of its best version. Ranitovic adds two more but, in the moment of greatest collapse, the red and whites find themselves, at least in a flash, and, with the defense, they also manage to start running again, bringing themselves back to -15; the illusion of the mentioned comeback, however, remains such because the inertia changes rapidly: Goldengas is in difficulty again and sinks back to -19, 40-21, before Brigato’s triple and the recovery in defense which yields three points with the conclusion heavy by Neri and, due to inertia, Imsandt’s recovery with an unsportsmanlike foul by the guests. Senigallia is alive: Del Prete’s basket dampens the enthusiasm but only temporarily because Sanna’s triple and Imsandt’s basket create an 11-3 which brings Giacomini and his teammates back under the double-digit deficit, 43-34 for the guests, with 30″ to go. The score remained the same even at the siren with errors from Stefanov and Giacomini all over the pitch before time expired.

And finally the music changes completely in the third quarter. Senigallia returns to grind out pace, defense and even baskets from outside and, although Pescara finds good shots at least in the first 2-3 minutes of the half, the red and white reaction is peremptory: Medizza returns to make himself heard near the basket, Brigato and Neri they find themselves from long range and approaching, but above all captain Giacomini plays the charge with a couple of balls of his own and 5 important points that bring Senigallia back up to +3. Then a couple of missed passes in attack allow the guests, with Cecchetti’s triple, to regain the lead at 53-51, before Brigato, at the dawn of the final two minutes of play of the third quarter, restores parity with a layup not easy given Capitanelli’s opposition. Cecchetti’s five consecutive points, however, signed the guest’s mini-stretch which wrote 60-55 on the scoreboard at the end of the third quarter.

In the last half the firepower of Goldengas is unleashed: Brigato and Neri score repeatedly, but it is Sanna who finds himself: three triples, two rebounds in attack and a contribution on both sides of the pitch. Senigallia’s partial is, in fact, one of those that do not allow replies with the guests who, in addition to not finding the way to the basket, also struggle to close the area and perhaps even suffer a little from the effort with the rotations that they are further shortened (Ielmini out due to injury, Matera sent off for double unsportsmanlike action). For the rest, the figures of a last fraction speak for themselves and show the real Goldengas admired in this first phase: 26 points scored, 60% from 3 points and the guests limited to just 14 points.

Now all that remains is to wait for the calendar for all the teams, certainly the first verdict is that Senigallia’s challengers will be Virtus Roma, Supernova Fiumicino, Pallacanestro Palestrina and, officially after this round, Val di Ceppo. We just have to wait and, in the meantime, smile at this first phase which ended with fifteen victories and third place (tied with Bramante and Loreto, the former are second in the separate ranking).
