Gokyo Judo Club and Judo Morales Club Competitors Shine at Tournament

Three judokas attended from the Gokyo Judo Club. The first to jump onto the tatami was Raúl Fernández in the -66 Kg category, who had no luck and was left out of the medal options.

Then Rubén de Castro would enter the fray in the -60 Kg category, who, after losing in the initial fight with which he would ultimately become champion, knew how to recover and managed to advance to the medal fights, achieving the bronze in a fight that was very difficult for him as soon as it started, but Rubén managed to turn it around and win for Ippon.

Finally, it was Diego Bruña’s turn in the -81 Kg category, who, after having no luck in the draw since he got the draw in which all the favorites were going, managed to surprise and win the medal of bronze.

From the Judo Morales club there were 6 competitors. Juan Meana in -60kg gave the scare of the day, in the first fight he received a random blow and was a little concussed which made him not continue in the competition.

Álvaro Del Arco (-73kg) did not have his day, fell in the second round and did not enter the repechage.

Isabel Fernández (-52kg), despite being a competitor with little experience, demonstrated her great progression by performing one-on-one combats with more experienced rivals to take a valuable fifth place.

Miriam Silvares (-52kg), one of the favorites, could not get on the podium. The Zamora has just been out for two months due to a shoulder injury, which she undoubtedly noticed and although she tried to reach the bronze medal, she had to settle for a good fourth place.

For his part, Juan José Bartual (-90kg) did podium dAfter three very tough fights with Judokas much bigger than him.

Lastly, and the great joy of the day for Judo Moralino, was Elena Bahamonde (-48kg) who won the medal in oro. Elena, still a cadet and with a lower weight, did not give her rivals any options, as she won all the fights for Ippon. Once the champion, Elena will be in Santander with the Castilla y León team in the western sector phase of the Spanish Championship on February 23 and 24, a very intense month for this competitor since on the 17th and 18th she will be in Fuengirola representing Spain in the European Cup, an achievement that no judoka in the province had achieved until now.
