French Men’s Table Tennis Team Advances to World Championship Final, First Time Since 1997

The French men’s team beat Taiwan 3 to 1 in the semi-final of the World Table Tennis Championships. It will therefore play the final against China this Sunday, February 25. This is a first since 1997.

A real feat less than six months before the Paris Olympic Games. The French men’s table tennis team managed to beat Taiwan, 3 to 1, during the World Championships, this Saturday, February 24 in Busan, South Korea. France will therefore play the final this Sunday against China, a first in 27 years.

The last final contested by the French table tennis team dates back to 1997. The French table tennis players, led by Jean-Philippe Gatien, were then beaten by China, 3 to 1.

Before the Paris Olympic Games, the current French team, made up of brothers Félix and Alexis Lebrun and Simon Gauzy, will therefore attempt to take on a major challenge this Sunday, February 25. China is currently the ten-time world table tennis champion for men. The country also has the top five players in the world and beat host South Korea in the semi-final, 3-2.
