French Judo Star Walide Khyar: A Player to Watch at Paris Grand Slam Ahead of Olympic Games

Six months before the Olympic Games, Walide Khyar will be one of the French people to watch this weekend during the Paris Grand Slam. Top Chrono, the Sports.fr omnisport podcast, took an interest in the journey of the native of Bondy, who relaunched his career by changing category.

At 28 years old, Walide Khyar is a fully mature judoka, who is ambitiously preparing for the Paris Olympic Games. After discovering the big world in 2016 in Rio, he missed the following Olympics in Tokyo. In the process, Walide Khyar decided to move up in category, going from -60 kg to -66. A change that paid off, which notably allowed him to win his first world medal in 2023.

Top Chrono, the sports podcast from Sports.fr, looks back at Walide Khyar’s journey with Bastien Puget, Deputy National Technical Director of France Judo in charge of High Level and Performance, and Baptiste Leroy, Manager of the French men’s team.

With Teddy Riner, Clarisse Agbegnenou and Sarah-Léonie Cysique, Walide Khyar is one of the 10 French people who have already been selected by France Judo to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Like many headliners of French judo, Walide Khyar will be present this weekend in Bercy for the Paris Grand Slam, one of the most important tournaments of the season, which will be one of the first general rehearsals before the Games.
