Football: once mentioned in Ligue 1, Yann M’Vila signs for West Bromwich Albion

It’s the end of an endless wait for Yann M’Vila. Without a club since the end of his contract with Greek club Olympiakos last summer, the 33-year-old defensive midfielder has finally found a landing spot. The Frenchman signed up with the English club West Bromwich Albion (WBA), currently fifth in the Championship, the 2nd English division.

For M’Vila, England will not be new since he had already played for Sunderland, in the Premier League, during the 2015-2016 season. At the time, he was loaned to the English club for a year by the Russians Rubin Kazan, with whom he was under contract between 2012 and 2018.

The French international (22 caps, 1 goal) will therefore return to the field in the team from the suburbs of Birmingham, in the position of barrier for accession to the Premier League, in this marathon that is the Championship.

It is a happy epilogue for the one which has been announced in several French clubs for six months, such as Nantes, Lyon and Marseille. A return to France which will therefore not happen immediately for the former player of Rennes (2008-2013) and Saint-Étienne (2018-2020).

Yann M’Vila and WBA have agreed on a six-month contract, with the main objective of helping to move the club up to the Premier League, the level he left in 2021.
