After the loss of Justin Bijlow, the personnel problems at Feyenoord continue to increase. In Wednesday’s KNVB cup match against AZ (2-0 win), captain Gernot Trauner was injured and Quinten Timber appears to have suffered a serious concussion. And it didn’t stop there.

Trainer Arne Slot said at the press conference afterwards that Thomas van den Belt, who was injured against FC Twente at the end of January, still needs weeks to recover. The midfielder is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Trauner also has a hamstring injury. The experienced defender left the field after half an hour against AZ and further investigation must show how serious it is. The fear is that Trauner will also be unable to take action for weeks. It was announced on Tuesday that goalkeeper Bijlow will need about eight weeks to recover from his calf injury.

Timber was accidentally shot hard in the face by teammate Igor Paixão in the final phase of the match. He left the field on a stretcher.

“Timber is conscious,” Feyenoord coach Arne Slot said after the match. “But he didn’t know where he was. It now appears that it was a serious concussion.”

Giménez mist half finale

Trauner and Timber will not be able to play against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday and Slot thinks that the Europa League match next Thursday against AS Roma will also come too early for the pair.

Santiago Gímenez is available for the coming matches, but the striker will miss the semi-final of the KNVB cup tournament at the end of February. Giménez received his second yellow card of the tournament against AZ, which means he has been suspended.

It is not yet known who Feyenoord will play against in the semi-finals. The draw will take place on Saturday and then SC Cambuur and NEC will also be drawn. The last quarter-final is on Thursday between FC Groningen and Fortuna Sittard.

Feyenoord won the quarter-final against AZ 2-0. Lutsharel Geertruida and Bart Nieuwkoop scored the goals.
