The classic red livery, crossed by white and yellow bands, while the black shades decrease. These are the first images of new SF-24, the car with which the Ferrari team will face the 2024 Formula 1 season starting on March 2 in Bahrain. The SF-24 was presented in Fiorano, in the presence of a small number of guests, and in online connection with the rest of the world. Among those present were president John Elkann, CEO Benedetto Vigna and vice president Piero Ferrari, as well as the team principal Fred Vasseur and the pilots Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Immediately after the official presentation, the SF-24 took to the track in Fiorano. An opportunity for the team to carry out the shakedown of the car and allow the drivers, after testing it on the simulator in recent weeks, to get a first idea of how the single-seater behaves on the track. The videos published on social media by the Maranello team show the opening of the garage with Spaniard Carlos Sainz at the wheel. Then it was il turn of the Monegasque Charles Leclerc.
Vasseur: “We will be more cynical and effective”
Fred Vasseur is confident: “Presenting a new car is always a very exciting moment, both for me and for the drivers, even if we are all already thinking about when we will compete on the track with our rivals”. “This year we have to start again from where we left off at the end of last season, when we were constantly in the top positions – added the team principal of the Ferrari team -. The most challenging championship in history awaits us of F1 and with Charles and Carlos we agree: we must be more cynical and effective in taking advantage of opportunities, trying to bring home points in every race and continuing to improve in all aspects”. Thus, on the occasion of the launch of the SF-2024. Vasseur appealed to the fans of the Red: “To succeed in such a close championship we know that the fans can be our plus and we are proud to be able to count on them.”
Leclerc: “We want to always be at the front”
“It’s always a unique sensation to see the car for the first time after months of work in Maranello – said Leclerc -. I like the car a lot, including the white and yellow details of the bodywork. Obviously, however, what interests me the more performance because everything is at stake on the track and for this reason we have given a series of inputs to our mechanics. The SF-24 promises to be less sensitive and more driveable and I would say that for us riders it’s exactly what we need to do well. I expect a step forward in many aspects and from what I could understand in the simulator I think we are where we want to be. This season the goal is to always be at the front: I want to repay our fans with many good races and return to dedicating victories to them.”
The discontinuity of forms
The SF-24 is the third car of the new generation ground effect introduced two years ago by Formula 1, but you see a discontinuity even in the forms. White was reintroduced after the success achieved last year by the special bodywork seen in Las Vegas, while yellow has always been Ferrari’s second color but the longitudinal stripes had been missing from the livery since 1968 and had never been paired with the white ones. The shade of red is Racing Red 2024, matte. Black is limited to the bottom of the car, the front bulkheads, part of the halo and other details. Also the circles are red with a double white and yellow stripecolors that also characterize the race numbers – 16 and 55 – which continue to be in Ferrari Sans, the official font of the Maranello company, but now in italics.
Sainz: “The goal is to have a more drivable car”
“When I first saw the SF-24 I wanted to get on it and start the engine.” So does the Spanish driver Carlos Sainz. “The goal is to have a more drivable single-seater and therefore constant on the race pace, which are the basic requirements to be able to fight for victory – commented Sainz -. We drivers did our best to provide precise information to the technicians and I am sure that the engineers working in Maranello will have complied with our needs. We want to give something to cheer about to the fans who supported us even in the most difficult moments of last season.”
