FC Bayern Faces UEFA Penalty: Fan Ban and Fine Imposed for Misconduct

FC Bayern reacts to the UEFA penalty!

The record champions are not allowed to sell tickets to their fans at the next international away game. The UEFA disciplinary committee decided this on Thursday.

Reason: During the first leg of the round of 16 in Rome (0-1), supporters of the Munich pyrotechnics burned down and thus violated a probationary order from the game in Copenhagen (October 3, 2023). In addition to a fine of 40,000 euros, a suspended spectator ban from an away game was imposed for two years.

Board boss Jan-Christian Dreesen (56) said in a club statement: “This is a very hard decision. We had already made an urgent appeal to our supporters in December and asked them to refrain from any further pyrotechnics.”

Further: “We have requested the reasons for the decision and are examining the possibility of an objection.”

Dreesen: “As of now, no fans will be able to accompany us at our next away game in Europe. The team is missing important support and it is particularly hard on the fans, who always behave correctly.”

Should Bayern defeat Lazio Rome in the second leg (March 5th, 9 p.m., Prime Video and live on bild.de in the ticker) and move into the Champions League quarter-finals, they would have to rely on their own support in the away game of the round of the last eight Avoid appendix. Otherwise, this penalty would hit Bayern in their first game away from home in European competition next season.

In addition to the fan ban, the club also has to pay 10,500 euros for throwing objects and 40,250 euros for setting off pyrotechnics.
