At the head of Val Salarno the Salarno Horns stand out and, to their left, the Salarno pass opens onto the wide spaces of Pian di Neve and Adamello. This excursion is very interesting both from the point of view naturalistic than from that environmental.
The entire itinerary takes place on a wide mule track and on a not tiring path and well signposted where it is possible to admire the waters of two beautiful lakes which apparently appear natural but are actually artificial.
Season: Summer – Winter (with snowshoes

Walking excursion in Val Salarno

I start my hike by walking along the mule track characterized by a series of hairpin bends. After passing the first steep rocky step leading to Val Salarno, I continue along a flat stretch of the mule track and, crossing a small bridge, I leave the crossroads for Lake Bos on the right.
After the last curves I walk less laboriously until I reach the Macesso di Sotto hut (1758 m) first and, after a few hairpin bends, the Macesso di Sopra hut (1935 m). In this first stretch I found a very varied vegetation characterized by spruce trees, larches, rhododendron bushes and alders. I leave the path on the left that goes up towards the Valle di Macesso Pass and the Gnutti refuge and I go up the edge of the former bed of Lake Macesso (now devoid of water) facing a steeper stretch, at the end of which I arrive at the large lake of Salarno and, slightly higher up, at the Dosazzo lake (2070 m).
These two lakes are part of a complex of structures built at high altitude to produce electricity called the “Poglia System”.
Having covered the last stretch of the moderately sloping path, I finally arrive at the Prudenzini refuge, where a good, tasty lunch and a cold beer await me.

The Prudenzini refuge

The Prudenzini refuge is one of the stages of the Alta via dell’Adamello and is the starting point for most of the peaks of the Adamello group and various refuges. The walls that close the head of the valley are crossed by countless climbing routes that make the valley a true vertical paradise.
The Prudenzini refuge is the heir of the old Salarno refuge, the first built by CAI Brescia. Inaugurated in 1882, in the winter of 1887-88 the Salarno refuge was overwhelmed by an avalanche which kept it buried for 18 months. Rearranged, he represented a valid for another decade support point for mountaineers.
Its unfortunate position, subject to frequent avalanches, forced the Section to abandon himuntil the current refuge was inaugurated in 1908. The ruins of the old refuge are clearly visible a few hundred meters towards the valley floor on the route of itinerary n.14 towards the Salarno Pass.
Per reserve or ask for information on the refuge you can contact the manager, the Alpine Guide Rino Ferri at the following telephone numbers: landline 0364634578 or mobile 3333318724.

The snowshoe excursion in Val Salarno is one of the best itineraries to do in Lombardy. However, the itinerary is subject to avalanches and it is recommended to tackle this trip with caution stable surface conditions avoiding too hot days in spring.
The departure in this case is from Saviore dell’Adamello, at an altitude of 1210 m. You can walk along it on foot asphalt forest roadoften covered in snow during the winter, which leads to the Stella Alpina refuge in Fabrezza.
You can follow the summer path up to Lake Salarno, but afterwards you have to improvise a route in fresh snow paying extreme attention.
Lake Salarno can therefore be considered a valid point of arrival for those who don’t want to risk continuing to the Prudenzini refuge, it will still have been a fantastic snowshoe excursion in the wild Salarno Valley of the Adamello group.
