Europa League: Lukaku misses his shot on goal but can thank Svilar who sends Roma into the round of 16

Roma and Feyenoord parted ways at the end of the suspense this Thursday in the Europa League play-offs. We had to wait for the penalty shootout to decide between the two teams after the 1-1 split at the end of extra time. Romelu Lukaku was the only Roman to miss his shot on goal, but Mile Svilar managed to stop two Dutch attempts to send Roma into the round of 16.

After the first leg was divided (1-1), everything is still to be done between Roma and Feyenoord, but the match gets off to a flying start. Feyenoord opened the scoring after just five minutes on a deflection from Gimenez from the shoulder on a strike Nieuwkoop.

Roma, however, does not give up and can rely on its captain Lorenzo Pellegrini to put the two teams back on par. The Italian midfielder sends a magnificent curling shot into the top corner to equalize (15th).

The match was choppy and the two teams created few chances. Roma and Feyenoord are unable to decide between themselves and the match goes to extra time. Here again, the opportunities are not legion.

Romelu Lukaku however, has the match point at the end of his foot in the 121st. Thrown on the right side by Baldanzithe Red Devil stares at his defender and tries his luck from the right but his cross shot from the right is well repelled by Wellenreuther. On the following corner, Lukaku headed again but his dive bounced too high and went over.

The qualification will therefore be decided on penalties and Roma start the session well thanks to Paredes. Ueda is also successful for Feyenoor. Romelu Lukaku then appears on the penalty spot. It’s obviously not the Red Devil’s evening since the attacker misses his shot on goal, which is stopped by Wellenreuther.

But the Red Devil will be saved by Mile Svilar. The Roma goalkeeper will indeed stop Feyenoord’s next two attempts. By defeating Hancko et JahanbakhshSvilar puts the Giallorossi back in the race. Cristante et Aouar did not tremble and converted their shot on goal for the Romans. Hartman also scores his penalty for Feyenoord. The young Zalewski then has the match ball at the end of his foot and does not tremble by sending a cross shot into the top corner to qualify Roma.
