VIVA – The Indonesian national team defender, Elkan Baggott, was again played by Bristol Rovers in the League One match against Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium, Saturday evening WIB, 17 February 2024.

In his second match with Bristol, Elkan was still not installed as a starter. In this match, Bristiol was two goals behind Northampton Town in the first half through goals from Patrick Brough and Mitch Pinnock.

Elkan Baggott was only introduced in the second half to replace Tristan Crama. The Indonesian national team defender contributed to Bristol Rovers’ goal in the 79th minute.

Receiving a back ball, Elkan headed the ball towards the front of the goal which Chris Martin hit with his header. The score changed 2-1.

However, Bristol failed to equalize. In fact, Northampton Town added a goal six minutes before normal time ended through Marc Leonard’s long-range shot. A score of 3-1 for the home team was the final result of the match.

This defeat made Bristol Rovers drop to 12th place in the League One standings with 43 points. Northampton Town overtook The Pirates in eleventh place with 44 points.

This assist seemed to be proof for Elkan after being criticized by Bristol fans when he made his debut. In the match against Stevenage vs Bristol Rovers at The Lamex Stadium, Stevenage, Wednesday morning WIB, 14 February 2024, Elkan appeared as a starter in the defender position in a three-back formation.

However, the 194 cm player only had the opportunity to play for 28 minutes when his team was trailing 0-2 to Stevenage.

Bristol coach Matthew Taylor brought in attacking midfielder Scott Sinclair so his team could play more aggressively. This strategy paid off, Bristol recovered and won the match with a score of 3-2.

Despite winning, Bristol Rovers supporters were not satisfied with their team’s performance, especially Elkan Baggott who was on loan from Ipswich Town in the January transfer window.

On social media, fans expressed their disappointment with Elkan’s performance. “Why is he (Elkan Baggott) bad?,” wrote the X account @Ipswichislife78.

“Instantly one of the worst players I’ve ever seen,” said the X account @drtq_9.

“He’s incredibly bad, enough to see after 20 minutes on Saturday,” wrote the X account @wt101997. “The worst player I have ever seen,” wrote the X account @RSage1987.
