Dominican Republic took away Puerto Rico’s undefeated record

Tigres de Licey, representative of the Dominican Republic, defeated Criollos de Cagua of Puerto Rico 5-2 at the close of the third day of the 2024 Caribbean Series.

In the second inning, Tigres de Licey opened the score. Ramón Hernández, Dawel Lugo and Héctor Rodríguez had consecutive hits, Kelvin Gutiérrez hit into a double play, but Hernández scored.

Dominican extended the lead in the third. Robinsón Canó hit a home run with two teammates on base that made the game 4-0.

Puerto Rico scored in the fourth inning. Heliot Ramos singled and scored on a double by Danny Ortiz, a single by Emmanuel Rivera put Ramos at third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Johneshwy Fargas.

In the seventh the fifth would come for the Dominican team. Yadiel Hernández singled, reached second on a sacrifice by Michael De La Cruz and scored on a hit by Gustavo Núñez.

César Valdez took the victory by allowing six hits and two runs in six innings. Jairo Asencio got the save by retiring the three batters he faced in the ninth.

Daryl Thompson took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs in two and two-thirds innings of work.

With this result, Tigres de Licey from the Dominican Republic equals Criollos de Cagua from Puerto Rico in third place with 2-1.
