DKT, Prudence’s parent company, is committed to the sale of lubricants for its growth – El Sol de México

DKT México, the parent company of Prudence condoms, wants to expand its market share in the sexual lubricant segment, a product that took off as a result of the pandemic and until now is one of the favorite items of Mexicans, indicated Mario Flores Álvarez, general director of DKT Mexico and Latin America North.

“The condom base is very large, but in growth what has increased the most are lubricants, that is growing by double digits. It is a different category with significant growth, but it is not yet compared to condoms,” said the manager in an interview with El Sol de México.

The incursion of these products into the Mexican market represented a challenge due to their manufacturing, seeking to ensure that the lubricants had aromas or a friendly consistency and to break the stigma that they are only used for vaginal dryness.

Currently, lubricants are purchased more by women, although there is also a record of male users, according to Flores Álvarez.

Furthermore, he pointed out that its use is not directly related to condoms, that is, there are consumers who only purchase packages of lubricants without condoms or vice versa.

Such is the acceptance of these products that today their sales exceed double digits, although condoms remain the jewel in the crown of DKT Mexico, of which three out of four are purchased by men.

Regarding these articles, the director highlighted that Mexican consumers are increasingly looking for an ultra-sensitive condom that has a variety of flavors and that has an affordable price.

Mexico is the third most important country for DKT, only behind the Philippines and its home nation India. DKT was founded in 1989, has a presence in 24 nations and estimates that since its founding it has manufactured more than 721 million male condoms.

As a result of the pandemic, the company faced an atypical period in sales. The expectation was that condoms and other products would rise, but they experienced a drop of close to 10 percent. On the contrary, and to the surprise of DKT México, contraceptive methods such as vasectomies had considerable growth and until now it is a trend that is maintained in the company, which offers this and other services to the general population.
