Since he took over the position in Münster three and a half years ago, things have been steadily improving for the Eagle Bearers. There’s no question that Peter Niemeyer (40) has played a huge part in the third division football team’s upswing. Of course, this doesn’t go unnoticed by the competition either. And at the same time there is a risk that the sports director could be lured with lucrative offers.
Now Darmstadt 98 has apparently cast its fishing rod after him! The reeling bottom of the first division is looking for a new sports director after the short-term separation from Carsten Wehlmann. The 51-year-old had terminated his employment on March 31 at his own request, but wanted to continue his job until the end of the season. But those responsible at Lilien then decided to release Wehlmann from his duties with immediate effect.

Peter Niemeyer’s name should now appear on the candidate list of suitable successors. Even high up. Which isn’t really surprising! BILD knows: As a former professional from 98, the defensive midfielder played 45 first and 4 second division games between 2015 and 2018, Niemeyer still enjoys an excellent reputation, especially with club president Klaus-Rüdiger Fritsch (62).
