Controversy Surrounds Doc Rivers and Milwaukee Bucks: Former Players Speak Out

Doc Rivers has not yet brought about a turnaround for the Milwaukee Bucks, and the coach is already being criticized again. Above all, his former player, JJ Redick, deals against the former master coach of the Boston Celtics.

“I’ve been watching the trend for years. The trend is to always find excuses. We get it, Doc – taking over a team in the middle of the season is hard,” Redick said. “It’s always the same pattern. It’s always the team’s fault and he shirks responsibility.”

Recently, Rivers had spoken several times about the difficult circumstances in Milwaukee; seven of the first ten games went to waste, including the embarrassing defeat in Memphis against a better G League team. Rivers then rumbled that half the team had already been on vacation. Redick then responded to First Take and received a lot of headwind for it.

“That man saved your career,” Patrick Beverley noted of X, who played under Doc Rivers for the Clippers. “He made you a starter when no one wanted it. And now you’re retired and saying things like that on TV?”

Doc Rivers: Son jumps to the defense

Redick played under Rivers for the Clippers between 2013 and 2017 – and in fact, it was only under Rivers that the former shooting guard became a consistent starter. In 266 games for the Clippers, Redick averaged 15.8 points while sinking 44 percent of his three-pointers.

Reddick immediately relegated this to the realm of fables. “Pat, I have a four-year contract with a player option on the table for the same money to be a starter somewhere else. Don’t tell me ‘saved my career'”

Rivers’ son, former guard Austin Rivers, also jumped to his father’s side: “For someone who supposedly doesn’t take responsibility, he always seems to be blamed for everything bad. He’s always the guy who gets fired when with a team not everything is going well.” Austin Rivers cited, among other things, his father’s dismissal from the Clippers as an example. “They led 3-1 against the Nuggets in the bubble even though half the team didn’t want to be there,” said Rivers.

The 31-year-old also found the dismissal in Philadelphia incomprehensible. “He was fired because he lost to Boston, a team that was the clear favorite in this series.”
