Champions League: from adored player to distraught coach, Xavi’s fall at Barcelona

Despite his status as a local legend, he will soon leave FC Barcelona through the back door. He who dreamed so much of the position. He who was convinced that Barça, his Barça, would return to the top. He is Xavi Hernández, winner of the World Cup in 2010, the Euro in 2008 and 2012, four Champions Leagues and considered by some to be the greatest Spanish player of all time.

Arriving at the age of 11 at La Masia, the Catalan club’s training center, he will have known everything in his lifelong club. Apart from a – successful – stint in Qatar as a player (from 2015 to 2019) and coach (from 2019 to November 2021), Xavi is Barça. Two DNAs could not be more compatible.
