The Uco Lastra Pavilion in Santander was the venue chosen to host the dispute of the Judo Sector Phase that would select the best judokas from the northwest of Spain to elucidate the Final Phase of the National Championship in the Junior judo category.

The Castilla y León team, led by coach Álvaro Sánchez, was made up of Kyoto Club judokas Sofía Antúnez Varlygina in the weight of less than 70 kilos, and Álvaro Cueto Martín in less than 90 kilos, both previously classified in the First Selective phase of the Regional Championship.

The teams from Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla y León, came with the best of their artillery, so as is usual in the sectors, the difficulty is very great in the fight for the three places that provide the ticket for the dispute of the Final Phase of the National Championship.

Sofía Antúnez was unlucky in the draw and was deprived of qualification for the National Championship.

However, his teammate Álvaro Cueto did qualify by reaching the podium after qualifying in third position.

The Final Phase, for which the 16 best judokas in Spain are classified in each weight of the Junior category, will be held on Saturday, March 9 in Madrid, where León will once again have representation as usual in the Spanish Championships, confirming the potential of this sport in the province of León and the great work that the clubs throughout its geography have been doing, among which the Kyoto Club stands out. with a silent but very effective work with his coach Sara Teran at the head of the preparation.

In this way, Leonese judo once again shows that despite the little institutional support it receives, its sporting results are far above and always at the national forefront of this sport throughout Spain.
