Brutal attack on a discotheque. The Slovakian representative broke the young man’s bone and caused him a severe concussion

The incident should have happened after midnight in front of one of the clubs in Banská Bystrica. The attacked nineteen-year-old went outside to get some fresh air, then Žabk’s brutal attack followed.

“I didn’t know how he attacked me. I didn’t even know it was a hockey player,” Michal Mikle, who was at the disco like Žabka with his girlfriend, told JOJ TV. Žabka allegedly felt that Mikle was hanging around his partner, and decided to solve everything with the help of his fists.

The police dealt with the incident on the spot, they allegedly assessed the whole situation as a misdemeanor and fined Žabko, whose father also played hockey in the past and now works as an assistant to coach Pešán in Liberec, in the amount of 30 euros (roughly 760 crowns).

The injured young man ended up in hospital. “He broke my nose and some bone in my eye. I couldn’t breathe through my right nostril. I also had a severe concussion,” Mikle described.

The Banská Bystrica hockey management awarded Žabko, who played 39 games in the season, an unspecified financial fine and conditionally removed him from the squad.

“We expect our players to be role models and leaders not only on the ice, but also in civilian life. We don’t want our players to get into similar situations. That’s why I gave a speech to the entire team this week, in which I reminded them that our expectations are not only about their performance on the ice,” said the sports manager of the seventh team of the highest Slovak competition, Ľuboš Pisár.
