As confirmed by Suzanna Schäfer, the spouse of the former football player, 63-year-old Brema suffered a heart attack.

Bremen played 86 games for Germany between 1984 and 1994 and scored eight goals, including an 85th-minute penalty kick in the 1990 World Cup final against Argentina.

Bremen was also part of the German national team in the 1986 World Cup, when the Germans lost to the same Argentina in the final.

Bremen, who plays both defender and midfielder, started his football career in his native Hamburg team “Barmbek-Uhlenhorst”, later joined “1.FC Saarbrucken”, but in 1981 moved to the Bundesliga team “Kaiserslautern”, where he spent five seasons. For two more seasons, Bremen represented Bayern Munich, four seasons for the Italian Serie A club Milan Inter, one season for the Spanish club Zaragoza Real, and the last five years of his career were spent with Kaiserslautern.

Breme, who ended his football career in 1998, became the head coach of “Kaiserslautern” two years later, in 2004/2005. managed “Unterhaching” in the 2006 season, but in 2006 he was an assistant to Giovanni Trapatoni in the “VfB Stuttgart” team for a short time.
