Boris Becker and Holger Rune (ATP-8) Part Ways: Veteran Tennis Star Unable to Offer Needed Support

Boris Becker and Holger Rune (ATP-8) part ways. The 56-year-old German, six-time Grand Slam winner, has guided the twenty-year-old Dane since October last year. After a disappointing Australian Open, in which Rune was eliminated in the second round, the collaboration ends.

“For this to be successful, I would have to be much more available to Holger than I currently am,” Boris Becker posted on social media.

“Due to professional obligations and private responsibilities, I am currently unable to offer Holger what he needs.” Becker also did not accompany Holger Rune in Melbourne.

“I wish him the best and will always be his biggest fan,” he continued. “I truly enjoyed our time together.”

For Becker, it was his first job in professional tennis since his release from prison in December 2022.

Rune also broke with his Swiss trainer Severin Lüthi, the ex-coach of Roger Federer, last week. Lüthi only trained him from December.

He was also unable to accompany Rune on the circuit full-time. Kenneth Carlsen, one of the other trainers on the staff around Holger Rune, took over Lüthi’s tasks.
