Blau-Weiß Linz Continues Winless Streak: Analysis of Defeat Against Klagenfurt

Blau-Weiß Linz has been waiting for a win for six games. After the surprising draw against Salzburg, there was a 0-2 defeat away in Klagenfurt (to the match report >>>).

“I think we played a good game – but that’s not enough in Klagenfurt,” said Marco Krainz.

“Klagenfurt is a very solid team and is very compact at the back. It’s difficult to find the space. We found it, but we lacked the power at the front. We then beat ourselves,” said Krainz in “Sky” -Interview.

Until shortly before the break, the spectators saw a balanced game, with chances to score on both sides. Then Julian Gölles hit a pass from the right back into the defense center – where no teammate was standing, but Aaron Sky Schwarz thanked the ball to make it 1-0.

“Can’t happen to me”

“In a game like this, where both teams don’t have many chances to score, a mistake like that is obviously fatal. It shouldn’t happen to me like that,” said Gölles. “It was fine until the stupid mistake.”

“We simply made life difficult for ourselves with a serious individual mistake. In a typical 0-0 game, we go into the break 0-1,” analyzed coach Gerald Scheiblehner.

About the goal, the birthday boy said: “Maybe he made a mistake and thought it was Peter’s (Pacult, note) birthday. That can happen, I’m not angry with him. We want to be brave – that was a bit cocky. We have in We still had enough time in the second half, but we still have to improve at the front.”

There was a lack of cold-bloodedness at the front

Simon Pirkl also saw it similarly: “We made it too easy for them when they conceded goals and made the wrong decisions in the crucial moments. We didn’t play it out as much as we could have.”

Because in the final phase the blue and whites still had good opportunities to at least make the game exciting. “In the end there were a few actions where there was just some bad luck. We didn’t finish many of the chances that were created,” said Pirkl. “We pressed, were brave – we lacked consistency in the penalty area,” said Krainz.

Opponent Klagenfurt had the consequence, making it 2-0 through Black in the 71st minute. When Ronivaldo even shot at teammate Mensah in the final phase instead of scoring the next goal, luck was also lacking.

But, says Scheiblehner: “It’s not just bad luck. There are always several things that come together.”

He took the positive things with him from the defeat, knowing full well that there has to be more to come offensively: “We have seen that Ronivaldo is good for us because he secures the ball well, the others will be safe too. With Ibrahimi’s performance I’m very happy too.”

Gölles was also confident: “We’ve been working for a few weeks on getting better offensively and getting clearer scoring opportunities. That will definitely get better again, then the goals will come back.”
