Belgian Judo Competitor Jorre Verstraeten Makes Debut in Paris Tournament

The 26-year-old Louvaniste was immobilized by his opponent after 2’01 in overtime while, until then, the face-to-face was very balanced, even if our compatriot had already done well, on the ground, visibly one of the Ukrainian’s strengths (25 years old/n°10).

Previously, Jorre Verstraeten had been pushed into a first overtime by the Indian Yadav, whom he had knocked to the ground after 0’35 to get through this first round. Unfortunately, with his defeat against Khalmatov, the protégé of Cédric Taymans was forced to pack up his kimono to follow what happened from the stands.

On the women’s side, in -52 kg, Amber Ryheul easily dismissed the Argentinian Fiora (28 years old/n°45) to have the right to challenge the British Giles (27 years old/n°6), the same one who had beaten … Charline Van Snick in repechage at the Tokyo Games and then won the bronze medal. And Giles confirmed that she had become a safe bet because she only took a minute to immobilize Ryheul!

In -57 kg, Mina Libeer was opposed to the young Japanese Omori (21 years old/n°41), vice-champion of the university world after having already won bronze in Tokyo, Tashkent and Vienna. And this won with a beautiful movement which surprised the 26-year-old from Ghent, beaten in the second round last weekend, in Portugal. Mina will have to pull herself together for Olympic qualification.
