Today, Wednesday, February 7, the “Bee Murals” was inaugurated, an initiative born three years ago, but created only this year by primary school pupils and students of the San Giuseppe art high school. This mural represents bees carrying out their hard work, and aims to make those who observe it understand the importance of these animals. The principal Antonella Arnaboldi and the mayor of Grottaferrata Mirko Di Bernardo also participated in the ceremony.

«For many years our institute has been working hard to improve the health of planet Earth and its inhabitants – declared the students involved in the project. With the support of the principal and her collaborators – and often also the parents-teachers and students – they have managed to carry out many projects and carry out small but important actions, to ensure that everyone’s home can heal from her ills. We have become part of the national network Scuol@genda 2030, created to bring together schools interested in working to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals by 2030″

In fact, the pupils of the IC San Nilo primary school planted new trees and shrubs, also in collaboration with the Municipality and the Carabinieri of the State Forestry Corps; with Legambiente they celebrated the Tree Festival and participated in the “Forget-me-not” days to tidy up the outdoor spaces and plant lots of flowers; they have activated several educational gardens and opened a restaurant for pollinating insects called “The Humming Garden”. Hotels have also been created for insects, placed in plain sight on fruit trees.

«The mural – declares the teacher promoting the initiative – which we inaugurated today wants to remind everyone, even passers-by, of the beauty of nature and the importance of all forms of life. As Pope Francis wrote: “All of us beings in the universe are united by invisible bonds and create a sort of universal family.” For this reason we must guarantee life in all its forms, animal and plant, because each species has its importance in maintaining ecosystems in balance.”

The primary school children read the story of Oliver and Jerome, the eco-modern fable “The Bee and the Tortoise” which explains the importance of these small and hard-working living beings.

«The bee embroiders invisible threads – says the Caramagna quote written on the wall – from one flower to another and sews the meadow of light. And the pollen it brings with it is gold dust similar to the stars.”

A very beautiful initiative that focuses attention on the work of small animals in this big world as the banner says “For every flower you can admire there is a little bee to thank”.
