Basketball: “Financial embezzlement”… CSP Limoges in the crosshairs of justice

CSP Limoges, a monument of French sport with several continental trophies to its name, including the prestigious European Champions Club Cup in 1993, finds itself in turmoil. Justice is, in fact, interested in the accounting situation of the Limougeaud club. According to The People of the Center, the CSP has been targeted for several days by an investigation by the Limoges public prosecutor’s office for “financial embezzlement”. The daily adds that the investigation was opened following a report from the club’s auditors.

The debts, which have been accumulating since 2019, amount to 2.3 million euros (one million euros for the 2022-2023 financial year). A financial situation which had led the National Basketball League (LNB) to sanction the CSP with a withdrawal of three victories in Betclic Elite, for “significant deterioration between the estimated accounts as of June 30, 2023 and the accounts closed at the end of last season. » The club had recovered a victory after an appeal procedure with the French Federation and is continuing an appeal procedure with the CNOSF. Winners of Dijon on Saturday (93-77), Jean-Marc Dupraz’s men occupy 14th place (out of 18) in the elite after 23 days. The bottom three will be relegated to Pro B.

The LNB also launched an investigation into the CSP premises in Limoges last December. The body must again scrutinize the club’s accounts in March, the date of the traditional milestone six months after the start of the sporting season.
