Australian Jordan Thompson Makes History at 2024 Los Cabos Open with Double Title Win

The 2024 Los Cabos Open will be a tournament that Australian Jordan Thompson will never forget since here he won what are so far his only two titles on the ATP circuit in 11 years as a professional.

The Australian first became champion in the singles category by beating the Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-3 and 7-6(4).

But his triumphs did not stop there. He took a physical recovery break and returned to the court.

Thompson again faced Ruud, only this time in the doubles semifinal.

The Jordan/Purcell duo won 7-6(1) and 6-3 over the Casper/Blumberg couple.

So in a matter of hours Thompson returned to play a final at this venue, evidently, after another recovery break.

The rivals for the title were the Ecuadorian Gonzalo Escobar and the Kazakh Alexandr Nedovyesov, whom Jordan Thompson and Max Purcell also beat by sets of 7-5 and 7-6(2).

In this way, Jordan Thompson went down in the history of the Los Cabos Open for being the first tennis player to be proclaimed champion of both modalities in the same year.

Added to the fact that he is the first to do so with three games in the same session, in total Thompson between the night of February 24 and the early hours of February 25 had five hours of play divided between the three duels.
