(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 23 – The Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, in close coordination with the Mef, sent the Candidacy Documentation for the 2027 World Cup to Fidal, highlighting at the same time the need for a further parliamentary step in order to formalize all the financial guarantees requested by World Athletics, given that it is a major event for which the costs estimated so far amount to approximately 130 million euros.
The minister made this known in a note. “There is absolute conviction of the value of the candidacy which would bring the World Athletics Championships to Rome, 50 years after the last Italian edition – we read in the press release – but at this stage and in the absence of a specific regulatory authorisation, the formalization of all the spending commitments requested was not technically possible. The hope remains that World Athletics can take into account the commitments undertaken by the Government and the related interest widely expressed and formalized in organizing the event in Italy”.
