Bilal Coulibaly Names Pascal Siakam as Easiest Superstar to Defend: Analysis and Controversy

Author of a promising rookie season, Bilal Coulibaly notably had playing time at the Wizards thanks to his defensive qualities. He has several times been responsible for major clients and is therefore rather well placed to express himself on the most difficult/easiest players to defend in the NBA. Honest, the Frenchie slipped one for Pascal Siakam.

“Who is the most overrated player in the NBA?”

Two weeks ago, during an interview for RMC SportsBilal Coulibaly answered this question by quoting Pascal Siakam, specifying all the same “that he is very strong”. This Monday, on the show Run It Back, the subject came back to the table, and the Frenchie from Washington didn’t give up. On the contrary, he consolidated his choice.

“I stand by my position. I’m not saying he’s overrated, but I was asked who was the easiest superstar to defend, and I said Pascal. Because watching videos of him, I knew what he was going to do. Whether it’s going to the left, turning around, going to the right. So yeah, I said he was the easiest superstar to defend.”

Bilal and Siakam were the story we were missing! He confirms what he said previously, looking forward to their next match.

I don’t think it’s “to like or not to like”. Bilal simply answered the following question: who was the easiest superstar to defend this season.

He replied Siakam, that woke some people up, and Bilal does not shy away from a challenge or what he says.

Currently participating in the Pacers’ superb run in the Playoffs, Pascal Siakam impressed at the start of the series against the Bucks (36 and 37 points in the first two games), but has since been more discreet in terms of scoring (17 points on average over the eight last matches). His numbers over the entire 2023-24 season remain very solid, with almost 22 points on average at over 53% shooting. Fun fact: Spicy-P released its best scoring performance this season against… Washington, with 39 points in mid-November.

Nevertheless, Bilal Coulibaly’s words make sense.

Pascal Siakam is above all a player who shines through his versatility on the wings, and not through scoring as a priority. He is not a born scorer, he is a basketball player who began to make his place with the Raptors through his energy, his defense and his all-around game. All of this allowed Spicy P to win an NBA title in Toronto in 2019, without being the first offensive option. It was only then that he really rose to prominence in scoring to become an All-Star and an All-NBA caliber player.

All this to say that in terms of scoring, we are not in the same dimension as Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant or even Brandon Ingram, all pure scorers who impressed Bilal during his rookie season.
