Arsenal Crushes West Ham in London Derby, Moves Up Premier League Table

Arsenal won the London derby in style. The Gunners put a hard-working West Ham team (6-0) to death on Sunday at the London Stadium, notably with a double from Bukayo Saka and a goal from William Saliba. This very large success, the fourth in a row in the league, allows them to come back level with Manchester City and two lengths from Liverpool.

The confrontation between West Ham and Arsenal can be summed up in a single image, that of the massive departure of thousands of Hammers supporters before the break, overwhelmed by the wreck of their players. Arsenal led 4-0, “oles” descended from the stands of the London Stadium with each successful pass by Mikel Arteta’s protégés, and the West Ham followers decided that they had seen enough this Sunday afternoon, a week after sinking at Old Trafford (3-0).

“I can’t imagine Paris anywhere other than the Parc des Princes”

By displaying their discontent in this way, they avoided two additional goals, bringing to nine the number of goals conceded in the space of seven days by the eighth in the Premier League, who finished the match with poor statistics (5 shots, 29% possession).

Saliba scorer, Areola in difficulty

The Hammers are certainly deprived of Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta, but the absence of their best elements cannot serve as an excuse for the extreme weakness they displayed. An excitement and limits that the Gunners had fun highlighting for 90 minutes.

They had no trouble finding opportunities. William Saliba rewarded his team’s good start after attempts by Leandro Trossard (22nd, 23rd, 25th) and Martin Odegaard (28th). On the fifth corner obtained by Arsenal, the French international deceived his compatriot Alphonse Areola with a header (1-0, 32nd).

“The management of the Clauss case is almost amateurism”

Even if he was firm in a few situations, the West Ham goalkeeper recovered the ball at the back of his net six times, including three times on set pieces, and he was also at fault on the first of the two goals from Bukayo Saka.

Arteta was even able to rest his executives

Broke in the area, the winger transformed the penalty (2-0, 41st) and caused a chain reaction. Gabriel appeared on a free kick deliciously taken by Declan Rice (3-0, 44th), then Trossard cleared Areola’s top corner (4-0, 45th+2).

This same Rice, trained at West Ham, did not celebrate his long shot later in the game (6-0, 65th). In the meantime, Saka had further mystified the West Ham defense (5-0, 63rd), before leaving the pitch, like Trossard, Rice, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White after him.

Can OL be European via Ligue 1? “If in four matches…”

Arsenal returned to the level of Manchester City and two points from Liverpool – while having taken care of their goal difference – Mikel Arteta has thus given himself the right to rest his executives. A luxury which could make the difference during the next matches and in particular during the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League in Porto on February 21.
