The former goalkeeper (including VfL Wolfsburg) joins the live commentary about five minutes late after the break. Many viewers (3.2 million at peak) ask themselves: Where is Schult?
Suddenly Schult is next to commentator Bernd Schmelzer (58) again and asks: “Bernd, did I miss something in the catacombs?” He interjects with a laugh: “Fucked up is good!” Schult corrects: “Missed!”
Afterwards they both struggled for words, laughing, before Schmelzer became matter-of-fact and Schult pointed out the three German substitutions at halftime. The expert is already informed about this: “I already foresaw that. I’ve already seen that they’re getting ready.”

Why was Schult late anyway?
Schmelzer then spoke about Schult’s late arrival: “I wanted to let you breathe out until you got up here on the 5th floor! The De Almeida (French right-back) on ARD today is definitely Almuth Schult. What it does up and down here for meters is really quite remarkable.”
Then Schult reveals the secret of her relatively long delay. The world goalkeeper from 2014: “Yes, the elevator is also forbidden during live broadcasts, you could get stuck.” Schmelzer confirms this: “Of course, that was also chatted very deeply from the ARD internals.”
Schult makes an internal ARD guideline public. The commentators and their experts are apparently forbidden from using the elevator during live broadcasts. This means that it is better to accept a few minutes delay due to climbing the stairs before the delay becomes much longer if the elevator breaks down.
At least the commentators’ mood was not dampened by the result of the game.
