Apple Surprises Fans with New Sports App in the App Store

Without rumors and without much of an introduction, Apple surprisingly released the new sports app in the App Store today – free of charge. As the name suggests, you can expect a new application with which you can quickly and easily keep an eye on the sports results and statistics of your favorite teams.

“We built Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want – an app that provides incredibly fast access to scores and statistics,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services. “Available for free on the App Store, Apple Sports makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favorite teams and leagues.”

However, it shouldn’t stay that way. Even individual game updates and betting odds should be viewable in the app. In addition, Apple should synchronize with the Apple TV app and Apple News. The sports supported include basketball, baseball, football, ice hockey and soccer. At launch, many teams, tournaments and leagues including MLS, NBA, NCAA Basketball, NHL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Premier League, Serie A and many more will already be there. NFL, MLB, NCAAF, NWSL and the WNBA will follow later.

The catches of the new sports app

What sounds good is unfortunately not available here yet. Currently only iPhone users in the USA, Canada and Great Britain can download the app. The application is currently not available in the rest of the world and an announcement is also pending. However, the app already supports French and Spanish in addition to English, so a release in other regions is a matter of time. Apple also requires an iPhone with iOS 17.2 or newer.

What do you think of the new application? Let us know in the comments.
