Andrey Rublev Dominates Arthur Cazaux in Dubai ATP 500 Tournament

He was not unworthy. But Arthur Cazaux simply came across a rock on Wednesday in Dubai in the person of Andrey Rublev, finalist coming out of the Emirati ATP 500 tournament. The world number 5 particularly impressed to win in two sets (6-4, 6-4) and 1h18 of play precisely in this 2nd round. First qualified for the quarters, he will face the winner of the match between Sebastian Korda and Botic van de Zandschulp.

A little over a month after defeating Holger Rune in Melbourne, Arthur Cazaux was unable to land a second member of the Top 10 on his roster. But he can’t blame himself much, because the young Frenchman played his match and showed character as when he dismissed two match points on his serve at 5-3 against him in the second set, scoring four points ‘in a row. Andrey Rublev was just too solid. Very aggressive on the restart to break from the start, the Russian was impregnable in his commitments, not conceding the slightest break point.

With 72% of first balls, the Russian took care of his launch pad and was particularly incisive on his second racket shots. He also followed his attacks well at the net, not leaving much space for Cazaux. The latter never gave up, sending no less than 16 aces with 81% success behind his first and a waste limited to the exchange. But at 3-3, Rublev pulled out all the stops to win again and win a little later. The week remains positive for the Hérault resident, who came out of qualifying and won his first match in the ATP 500. He also moved to 4th and last provisional qualifier in the race for the Olympic Games.
