For this round of 16 of the ATP tournament in Los Cabos in Mexico, it is the American Marcos Giron who faces the Norwegian and member of the top 15 Casper Ruud. Marcos Giron entered this tournament through the previous round. He indeed won his 16th final in just 2 sets against the Japanese and 62nd in the world Taro Daniel. Despite a complicated start to this 2024 season with 2 defeats in the first round of Auckland then the Australian Open, the American recovered very well and reached the final of the Dallas tournament at the beginning of February. But he was unable to shake off his compatriot and opponent Tommy Paul, a member of the top 15, and lost in a match in 3 sets. Also performing well in Delray Beach by reaching the semi-final, Giron was unable to find the solution against another member of the top 15: Taylor Fritz, losing in just 2 sets. For his part, Casper Ruud is the number 4 seed in this Mexican tournament and enters directly through these 8th finals. Having won all of his matches played in the United Cup at the start of the season, the Norwegian seems to continue this season in the same way as he played the previous one. However, he played few matches this year but still managed to win his first two rounds at the Australian Open before losing in the round of 16 against Cameron Norrie, 23rd in the world, in a match in 4 sets. The world top 15 should win the match quite easily against an opponent who has already lost several times recently against such highly ranked players.
