Alexander Zverev Falls Short in Los Cabos Semifinals: Still Seeking First Title since September

Alexander Zverev still has to wait for his first title win since last September. The top German player lost to Australian Jordan Thompson 5:7, 6:4, 6:7 (2:7) in the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Los Cabos/Mexico after 3:42 hours of play.

Against number 40 in the world rankings, Zverev, currently sixth in the ATP rankings, was unable to match the performances of his previous matches in Los Cabos, which he had won easily.

The top seed from Hamburg also threw his racket in exasperation at times in the duel, which began in the evening and ended well after midnight. In the deciding set, the 26-year-old fended off five match points when the score was 5:6 and saved himself into the tie-break – but the Australian Open semi-finalist had no chance in this one.

Thompson (29) will face Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final (Sunday, 4:00 CET), who prevailed 6:4, 7:6 (7:4) against defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece).
