“Lung exploded, I arrived dead in hospitalâ€

The former pilot of the MotoGPLoris CapirossiOver 18 years later, he told what happened after the terrible accident in Phillip Island of 2005. In an interview given to Corriere della SeraCapirossi stated: “I arrived at the hospital with a life expectancy of a minute and a half. They stuck a tube between my ribs while I was awake and without anesthesia. My lung exploded on impact. At the time it didn’t seem like an extremely serious situation. With my wife, my father and a doctor we drove to the nearest hospital on Philip Island. Not a single regret because life has given me so much. Projects, many. Working to improve the conditions of those who race in the motorcycling world championship, I remain in contact with all the riders“.

Capirossi and his retirement

I had decided to retire some time before, while I was under the bike after a fall in Assen, Holland. At that moment I thought: ‘enough, it’s time to end it’. I told everyone and it was about finishing the season. I didn’t think I’d experience a day like the one that took Marco away, terrible, very ugly. I couldn’t wait to actually put it down” he finally concluded Capirossi.
