An almost “surprise” release for a medal that the National Mint intends to dedicate to the Giallorossi fans and which, however, is not actually linked to any particular event or commemoration. The medal, in silver and with a diameter of 32 mm (therefore certainly not gigantic) and weighing 18 grams, presents the historic symbol of Rome on the obverse, the stylized wolf, in color, which has accompanied the Giallorossi since the 1980s. On the reverse, a largely stylized map of Rome intended to identify the symbolic places of the sports club, accompanied by the inscription “eternal Rome“. A coinage therefore, it is written, to celebrate “The unique and indissoluble bond between Roma and its fans”.
On the map highlighted the first headquarters in Via Uffici del Vicario, the headquarters in via del Circo Massimo from 1969 to 1988 and Campo Testacciothe legendary stadium from 1929 to 1940, the year of Roma’s first scudetto.
An issue, it was said, that was definitely a surprise since this type of celebration is reserved for the winning teams of the championship (the medal for Napoli, champions of Italy, was issued in June) or in any case to celebrate significant successes or anniversaries.
The medal was produced in 1927 examples, equal to the year of foundation of Rome, born as known from the merger of the 3 Capitoline companies Alba, Roman and Fortitudo. The public sale price in the Mint is 100 euro. Definitely not a little.
